I am on Windowns 10 on Surface Pro 4, running the current Nightly Here is a recording of opening Nightly and navigating to a few websites, with disk and cpu activity visible. (something most of our users will probably not do) I reproduced this in a new profile, and so far the only thing that helped is excluding the Firefox process from Windows Defender Antivirus. This is considerably slowing me down and makes Firefox feel really slow. This is all you need to do to add Antimalware Service Executable to Windows Defender Exclusion List.I noticed that for some time now most of the time Firefox is active, the Windows 10 built in `Antimalware Service Executable` is using well above *30% of my CPU*, and is reading and writing random files in `Windows/Temp`, all starting with `etilqs_`. Step 4- Type ‘ MsMpEng.exe‘ in the textbox and click on ‘ OK‘ to save the changes. Step 2- Click on ‘ Windows Defender‘ and then click on ‘ Add an exclusion‘ option in the Exclusions section. Click on ‘ Update & Security‘ option from here. Step 1- Press Windows key + I simultaneously to launch the Settings window. To prevent this from happening, you can add Antimalware Service Executable to the Windows Defender Exclusion list. Thus, it checks itself too, and it is a common source of system lag. While scanning, Windows Defender scans each and every file on your PC. Method 3: Add Antimalware Service Executable to Windows Defender Exclusion List. Repeat the above method to reschedule scans for Windows Defender Cache Maintenance, Windows Defender Cleanup, and Windows Defender Verification. You can select weekly scans for the best results. Step 6- Now, you can create your scan schedule such that the CPU usage is balanced. Step 5- Double click on ‘ Windows Defender Scheduled Scan‘ this file, click on the ‘ Triggers‘ tab from the properties window, and click on the ‘ New‘ option. After, click on ‘ OK‘ to save the changes. Step 5- Go to the ‘ Conditions‘ tab and uncheck all the options. Step 4- Then, uncheck the ‘ Run with highest privileges‘ checkbox from the properties window. Step 3- Now that you have reached the Windows Defender folder, double click on ‘ Windows Defender Scheduled Scan‘ this file. Step 2- From the navigation panel, click on ‘ Task Scheduler Library‘ and continue navigating to Library > Microsoft > Windows > Windows Defender.
